Due to the cyclonic conditions created in the Himalayas, the weather has changed in many states of India. Rain and hailstorm were reported at many places in UP, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. At the same time, there was a strong storm. The Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy sky and light rain in Delhi and surrounding areas. Due to this, people have got relief from the heat, but there has been trouble for the farmers.
Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and hailstorm lashed parts of Hyderabad’s Vikarabad district, Marpalli village, Telangana’s Zaheerabad. Earlier, the Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert for the next two days across Telangana in view of the possibility of strong winds, hailstorm at some places. On the other hand, on Thursday evening in Bhopal, hail fell in some areas and it rained heavily.
The Meteorological Department has asked farmers to postpone harvesting of mustard crops in Punjab-Haryana, wheat and pulses in central Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh. Snowfall has also occurred in parts of the hilly states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The Meteorological Department said that mustard should not be harvested till the rains stop in Punjab and Haryana. If already harvested, store in safe places to avoid damage. Stop irrigation of wheat crops.
Heavy loss to farmers in Maharashtra
The Meteorological Department has asked to make arrangements to protect apple, pear, plum and peach orchards in Himachal Pradesh-Uttarakhand from hail. The same advice has also been given for fruit orchards in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. For the farmers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the IMD has suggested harvesting of ready-made mustard, gram and wheat as soon as possible and keeping them in a safe place. The rains for the last two days in different parts of Maharashtra have caused heavy losses to the farmers. There was heavy rain and hailstorm in Nashik, Dhule, Mumbai and surrounding areas on Tuesday.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in the plains of the country is between 33-37 degree Celsius. These are near normal or below normal in most parts of the country. On the forecast released by IMD for the next two weeks on Thursday evening, the Extended Range Forecast (ERF) said that interestingly, in the second week of March 2023, heat wave conditions do not prevail over most parts of India. This happened due to favorable synoptic system and active Western Disturbance over North India.
The Met department has predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunder and hailstorm over the western Himalayan region till Monday. The ERF said that rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over most parts of the country during the next four to five days. Due to this, the maximum temperature is likely to be near normal or below normal over most parts of the country.
Chance of light rain in and around Delhi
The Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy weather and light rain in Delhi and surrounding areas for the next five to six days from Thursday. During this time the maximum temperature will be around 30 degree Celsius. The Safdarjung observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which is five notches above normal and the highest so far this year.
