The Government of India has canceled the licenses of 18 pharma companies on charges of manufacturing spurious drugs. According to official sources, the Drugs Controller General of India has taken this decision after inspecting 76 pharmaceutical companies in 20 states.

Official sources have been quoted as saying that the country is running a special action campaign against pharma companies to instigate the manufacture of spurious drugs. It is being told that DCGI has also issued show cause notices to 26 pharma companies. This campaign is going on for the last 15 days.

Among the 70 companies against which the drive is being carried out, there are 70 companies in Himachal Pradesh, 45 in Uttarakhand and 23 in Madhya Pradesh. All these companies were accused of manufacturing spurious drugs. In the past, a notice was also sent to Amazon and Flipkart in the matter of medicines by the Drug Controller General of India. Both were accused of violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940. Such notices were sent to 20 companies including Amazon and Flipkart.
