CWG 2022: Indian athletes took part in many disciplines on the third day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 released in Birmingham, winning many and losing some. If we compare the third day with the second day of the Games, then in the medal tally, the matter remained a bit lighter for India. Jeremy gave India the second gold
India got its second gold medal on the third day of the Commonwealth Games. Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga won this gold medal. He led India to a gold medal in the 67kg category with two game records. He was injured in the clean and jerk and fell on the board due to pain but before that he had ensured the second gold medal for the country. He won the gold medal by lifting a total weight of 300 kg (in snatch and clean and jerk). He set two new game records by lifting 140 kg in snatch and 160 kg in clean and jerk.
Men’s hockey team started with victory
Indian men’s hockey team has started with a win in the Commonwealth Games. In the first match, Captain Manpreet Singh’s Indian team defeated Ghana 11-0, in this match all the players of India performed well. In this match, Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat-trick of goals. India will now play its second match against England on Monday, August 1.
Indian women’s team defeated Pakistan in T20 match
The Indian women’s cricket team defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in their second match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The entire team of Pakistan was all out for 99 runs in 18 overs. In reply, India chased down the target in 11.4 overs for the loss of two wickets. This was the first win for the Indian team in the Games.
Indian badminton team reached the semi-finals of the mixed doubles team event
India defeated South Africa 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the mixed team event of badminton to secure their place in the semi-finals. In the first match, mixed doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sumeeth Reddy beat South African pair of Elliot and Jordan 2-0 as India took a 1-0 lead over South Africa.
In the men’s singles match, India’s star shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated Kaiden Kakora of South Africa 21-5, 21-6 in two consecutive games to give India a 2-0 lead.
The third match was a women’s singles match which Akarshi Solz won in straight games 21-11, 21-16 against South Africa. With this win, India secured their place in the semi-finals by defeating South Africa 3-0.
Nikhat Zareen won the round of 16 match
Indian star female boxer Nikhat Zareen put up a stellar performance in the Round of 16 of the Commonwealth Games 2022 to seal her place in the quarterfinals. Nikhat knocked out her rival boxer Helena Ismail Bagao of Mozambique in the 48 – 50 kg light fly category after two rounds. The Indian boxer hit Bagao with so many punches in the first two rounds that the referee had to declare Nikhat Zareen the winner before the third round.
